Soldiers of the Old North State at the Bennett Farm (North State Rifles): James and Nancy Bennett had two sons, Lorenzo and Alfonso, and a daughter Eliza. Both sons answered the call to the Confederacy, but both died in the first years of the war. They are buried in Virginia cemeteries. Eliza lost her husband in the war, leaving the Bennett family without any assistance in operating their farm.
