Buckland's Approach to the Confederate Line

  

(3-96) Start of Buckland's Approach. Across Old Graveyard Road, west of Tour Stop 5 (Stockade Redan Attack). Stockade Redan in right background. Site Marker: Beginning of Buckland's Approach to the Confederate line. Work on it commenced about May 30, 1863, in charge of Capt. William C. Young, by details from 1st and 3d Brigades, 3d Division, 15th Corps. The approach was not carried close, but was finished by a parallel loop-holed for sharpshooters with sand bags, at a distance of about 75 yards from the Confederate line. Lightburn's Approach was started from the line of this approach
