Fort Hill Drive. East view of front of house. Built by lumberman John Fontaine. It faces the river and
originally had grounds extending down to it. A Confederate river battery
(Harwood House Battery, Battery C, 1st Tennessee Heavy Artillery, one
9-inch Dahlgren smoothbore) was positioned in the front yard and was supplied from a nearby
ammunition magazine, the remains are still visible. Was heavily damaged
from artillery fire |
