Hi, Today was my first foray ever into the history of the Civil War. I never knew how facinating it could all be. I wondered about the people who were so absorbed in it but I found myself going deeper and deeper into the subject. I am concentrating on Louisiana mostly; battles near Port Hudson. I am from Pennsylvania and I think I will look closer to home for areas to study in the future. Thank you for site. Yours sincerely, C.J.Farnham

Your site is very nice and caught my eye. Presently, I am preparing a manuscript on Talladega and the people who lived there. Included will be a diary of Dr. Maj. J.L. Stockdale from the time he was captured, July 9, 1863 until his release on Johnson's Island in 1865. I would be most grateful if you can assist me in locating photos of Port Hudson during the surrender or before. I noticed that you have some photos and would be most grateful if you would share them with me or get a copy to m

My great, great, grandfather, Silas W. Fletcher was a Sgt. in Co. D. 49th. Alabama Infantry. The 49th. Ala. helped defend "Fort Desperate" during the federal attacks of May 27th. and June 14th. Silas also fought at the battle of Shiloh, and after being exchanged following the Port Hudson campaign, he fought in some of the battles around Atlanta Ga. He lived until 1920 and is buried not far from here. (Waco, Tx.)

What a surprise to find your website. I am doing some photo research on the civil war and needed more info about Port Hudson. I visited the site a few year back and missed getting some history I needed. Maybe you could help. At one of the stops their was an exibit of a confederate cannon that had been damaged(muzzle). There was an old picture of the cannon and the restored cannon itself. Do you know the history of this (siege location, type of cannon, etc.)? Anyway, I found your website ver
