Jupiter is a town on the east coast of Florida in Palm Beach County. The light was designed by George G. Meade. It is believed that Robert E. Lee was one of the surveyors that chose the Jupiter Inlet site for a future lighthouse.
The light went into service in 1860. When the war broke out the light was disabled and the missing parts hidden until after the war.
