Champion House Road and Jackson Road approximately 150 yards south of the
church. From here the Jackson Road trace leads to the base of
Champion Hill, which is beyond the trees in right background. Early
morning of May 16, 1863, an advanced Confederate patrol was positioned on
the knoll at left. At 0900 the patrol fired upon the Union advanced
cavalry guard passing by the Champion House |
