(May 2010) Enlarge CSA Capt. Raphael Semmes Monument

This photo was taken on May 29, 2010 of the monument to Raphael Semmes who served as Captain of the CSS Alabama. The monument is one block from the Mobile City Visitor Center at Fort Conde. The Monument is in the middle of Church Street adjacent to the intersection of Church and Royal Streets. Note the traffic passing in opposite directions of the island in the street where the monument is located

(May 2013) Enlarge Replica CSS Hunley & USS Drum (SS-228)
This photo was taken the 26th of May 2013 at the Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, Alabama. In the foreground is a replica of the Confederate submarine CSS Hunley. In the background is the USS Drum which was commissioned November 1, 1941. The ship is 311'8" long with a beam (width) of 27'4" and displaced 1526 tons. Her crew consisted of seven officers and 65 enlisted men. She earned 12 battle stars during World War II. (Information taken from site brochure)
