(3-05) Birdsong's Ferry, located approximately 10-1/2 airline miles northeast of present day Bovina on the Big Black River, was a well-used river crossing in 1863. The ferry was on the main road between Brownsville (on the Brownsville Road, 9 miles to the east) and Oak Ridge (on the Benton Road, 7.6 miles to west-northwest), and thus provided a direct route from Brownsville to the northeast approaches to Vicksburg. The view is looking downstream from the west bank of the Big Black River |
