Widow Tapp Farm

This is the remains of the trench built by Longstreet's Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia at the Widow Tapp Farm area. General Lee's HQ was nearby. Note the cut of the grass to denote the path and the signage in the center of the photo. Next to the sign there is a slight rise, which is the trench remains. Union troops would have been beyond the rise directly in front

Texas Monument
 
This monument was erected by the State of Texas to recognize Texas troops who fought at the Wilderness. The monument is located at the far end of the walking trail in the Widow Tapp Farm section of The Wilderness Battlefield. The monument is near the site where Texas troops encountered the Union Army and told General Robert E. Lee to go to the rear. According to the NPS brochure 500 to 800 Texans died in the charge on May 6, 1864 near this spot.

Widow Tapp Farm

This is a view from the beginning of the trail. The photo is taken from behind CSA artillery positions at The Wilderness Battlefield in Virginia. This segment of National Park Service land is the Widow Tapp Farm area. Note there is no 'paved" trail. The tourist must follow portions of grass which are cut lower in order to stay on the mile long trail.

The photo was taken June 25, 2006 during rainy conditions
